Burnley and Leeds will battle it out for Premier League salvation in the last round of the Premier League. The Clarets await a rampant Newcastle at home, who spoiled Arsenal’s Champions League prospects last week. Will they bury the other team in the short term?
Burnley have taken just one point from the last three rounds and it is because of their poor end to the season that they are fighting to save themselves until the last round. It has the same number of points as eighteenth-placed Leeds, with only a better scoreline playing in the Clarets’ favour.
Newcastle, on the other hand, have been one of the highest scoring teams since the winter transfer window. From last place to twelfth, if they win they can think about top 10.
In the home team’s jersey, stopper Nathan Collins is getting more and more space, he even got nominated for the best Premier League player for the month of April. Goalkeeper Nick Pope is also putting in a reliable performance.
In the last round, the visitors are led by winter signing Bruno Guimaraes, the Brazilian midfielder has already scored five times and assisted once since his transfer from Lyon. In the last round Callum Wilson downed Arsenal, his sixth shot in seventeen games.
The home side will have to do without Matej Vydra, Ashley Westwood and Eric Peters, while the Magpies will be without Jamal Lewis, Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Willock.
Burnley have struggled in attack, scoring more than once in just one of the last five rounds. The departure of offensive mainstay Chris Wood is really showing.
Conversely, Newcastle’s attack is pacing, scoring twice or more in three of their last six games, while facing Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal in that period.
Although Newcastle, unlike Burnley, are no longer playing for anything, the performance against Arsenal clearly indicated that they are definitely not finishing the season on half throttle. That’s why I think they will win this one too.
