Bayern Munich have a new coach, it is still only 33-year-old Julian Nagelsmann, who has had engagements at Hoffenheim and Leipzig.
Nagelsmann has one trophy to his name in his coaching career, but not from adult football. He led Hoffenheim’s junior team to the German championship title in 2014.
So far, however, no one expected too much from him in terms of trophies. No one in Hoffenheim counted on them, in Leipzig with higher ambitions they may yearn for them, but they don’t take success for granted.
At Bayern, Nagelsmann will have it completely different and he is aware of that. He enters his first season with the highest ambitions.
“We want to succeed in the cup, the Champions League and of course also in the Bundesliga. Bayern will try to win their tenth championship title in a row and of course my first in my career,” the talented coach makes no secret of his desire for success.
But the Bundesliga is the most important thing for him. “We have to play 34 games in top form. Moreover, a tenth title in a row is very tempting. However, I don’t want to prioritise any trophy, we want to win all competitions,” Nagelsmann continued.
His first training session at the club is behind him. “Since it was the first training session, I have to evaluate it positively. We are still missing a few players, so we have a lot of juniors available, but after the holiday the players look good,” Nagelsmann assessed.
In pre-season preparation, Bayern will play Cologne, Ajax, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Napoli and a dress rehearsal against Bremer SV.
Bayern will open the season on 13 August at Borussia Mönchengladbach. “It won’t be easy at all. They also have a new coach in Adi Hütter, who did an excellent job in Frankfurt and will surely build on it in Gladbach,” the Bavarian giant’s coach is clear.
“Borussia have very good players, great individualities. In recent years, they have shown a great mentality on the pitch. It will be an interesting benchmark. We are looking forward to it, although of course we would prefer to play the first game of the season at home,” Nagelsmann added.
