Brentford and Chelsea face off in the 12th round of the English Premier League on Wednesday 19 October. The match between the two London clubs will be hosted by Brentford Community Stadium from 20:30.
First up for the home side. The confidants of coach Thomas Frank are in 9th place in the table with 13 points from 10 games played with an aggregate score of 18::17. The top scorer is Ivan Toney, who is also the third best scorer of the whole competition with eight goals.
Brentford started the season well, then came a series of losses, but all in all, 9th place is rather a pleasant surprise. Pre-season predictions were more in the fight for relegation, or just above it.
The last 4 games in the last month have yielded Brentford 4 points. First came a 0-3 home loss to Arsenal, followed by a goalless draw at Bournemouth. After the 1:5 debacle at Newcastle came a home win against Brighton, who have been in a significant slump in recent games after coach Potter left for Chelsea.
Graham Potter made his debut on the Blues bench on 14 September in a Champions League home game against Salzburg which ended 1: 1. However, for the next 5 matches in a row his charges scored full points. Chelsea are in fourth place in the league with 19 points from 9 matches and a 15::10 record.
The goals are distributed among many players. The best scorer of the team is Raheem Sterling with 3 goals. Chelsea have played 5 games in October and all of them ended in victory.
First came a 1:2 win at Crystal Palace. This was followed by a 3-0 home win against AC Milan. The league game against Wolves was the same. Again with Italian AC Milan, this time at San Siro, a 0:2 win and again the same result in the league at Aston Villa.
The last game was on 2 April at Stamford bridge and Brentford surprisingly declashed the home team 1: 4. But it was a completely different Chelsea and also a completely different Brentford. The other duels are clearly in favour of the blues.
Brentford are not scoring as many goals as they did at the start of the league. They’ve only scored 3 times in their last 4 games. Chelsea’s defence is much more solid after the arrival of Graham Potter than under Tuchel. The Blues last scored on October 1 in the 7th minute against Crystal Palace and that means they haven’t got a goal for 465 competitive minutes.
Chelsea are in fantastic form, with a rock solid defence and a solid offence. The Bees are fifth in the table at home, but Chelsea are second in the table outside. This shouldn’t be a problem. Potter should work his magic in this game and I believe his charges will dominate it
