The famous and admired by the whole world winning streak of 27 games in a row is over. Brenda Fruhwirth has found her first defeat since May. Five W25 tournaments conquered. First attempt at a higher category tournament ended in failure.
It all started at the end of June in Klosters, Switzerland. A dominant performance, the whole tournament without losing a set and the first title. The next one followed in Sweden, in Danderyd, this time with one set lost.
Title number 3 came in Mogyorod, Hungary. Again a tournament without losing a set with absolute dominance and above all a famous victory 6::0 and 6::0 in the final against Luise Meyer Auf Der Heide.
Another tournament, another title and again without losing a set. This time in Braunschweig, Germany. The last event won was called Santa Margherita di Pula 6 and was played in Italy.
At this point it was time to try a higher category tournament and so Brenda signed up for San Sebastian, where the W60 category event is being held. In the first two rounds it was again smooth wins against the home Spanish women.
In the quarterfinals, however, the young Czech was no match for Vedderova from the Netherlands, whom she lost 3::6, 6::2 and 4::6. And so ended a spectacular unbeaten streak.
The defeat came as quite a surprise. The opponent was certainly playable, she is ranked 242nd in the rankings. Brenda hopefully has a great future ahead of her and if it didn’t work out the first time, it will next time! In addition, this tournament has moved Brenda up to 150th on the live leaderboard!
