The younger of the Fruhvirt sisters only got a taste of adult competition over Christmas. She first reached the eighth round at the Seoul tournament and then dominated two ITF tournaments this year in Tucuman, Argentina.
Both times she managed to beat the tournament’s number one player, Argentine Ormaechea. As a result, she moved up 467 places in the WTA rankings to 611th. She moves up to 435th after the next points are added.
Guadalajara hosted the Tournament of Champions last year. Fruhvirt has to qualify on her way to the main stage of the tournament, where she will face experienced Italian Sara Errani in the first round.
the 34-year-old Errani is a former world No. 5 player in the WTA rankings. She hasn’t been doing well on the hard surface in recent years.
Last season she had a 6/10 record. This season, she hasn’t been able to get past the first round of qualifying yet.
Let’s see if Brenda can pull it out against the Italian player. The match starts at 21:00.
