Slovan took a 2-0 lead into the rematch, but quickly came under pressure in Ireland, conceding a penalty in the 16th minute. After the change of sides, the home side scored a second goal. The extra time was averted by a goal from Vladimir Weiss and Slovan will now advance to the second round of the Champions League, where they will play Young Boys Bern.
A big embarrassment was on the cards for Cluj. The latter travelled to Bosnia and Herzegovina for the match with Banja Luka with a two-goal lead, but thanks to two goals from the Bosnian champion within four minutes it went into extra time. Cluj managed to strike two minutes before the end, so there was no penalty and the Romanian favourite goes further.
The Bulgarian favourite Ludogorets did not fail either, beating Salihorsk 1:0 in the second leg and moving on. Ferencváros, last year’s Champions League qualifier, also made it to the next round with two wins over Pristina.
Experienced Malmö had a tough time against Riga of Latvia, but a 1-0 win in the opening game was enough to draw 1-1 and advance to the next round.
In a clash of two outsiders, Flora Talin gave Hibernians no chance, crushing them 5: 0 on aggregate.
Lithuanian Zalgiris Vilnius can also be considered a great success, over Northern Ireland’s Linfield, but especially Gibraltar’s Lincoln, who crushed Luxembourg’s Fola Esch in the rematch.
Sheriff Tiraspol managed to win for the second time against Teuta, the same for Slovenian Mura against Macedonian Tetovo, and Helsinki can also boast two wins as they played with Future.
In the last game played from 10am, Dinamo Zagreb played Reykjavík and since they won the first game, they are through to the next stage of qualification.
All the qualifiers play the second Champions League preliminary round in a week’s time, while the losers go through to the second round of the Europa League.
