The Spanish offensive winger returned to Real Madrid in the summer after a two-year loan spell at AC Milan. Especially after Marco Asensio left,, it looked like he could be getting plenty of game opportunities, however Carlo Ancelotti has chosen a different formation and Brahim is not getting the position underneath the spike despite Jude Bellingham.

He joined Real Madrid from Manchester City for €17 million in January 2019. He has already had several starts for the Manchester City team, even managing to score 2 goals. In a not-so-good second half of the season from the White Ballet, Brahim got opportunities mainly only at the end of the season, when it was no longer a big deal.

In the following season, the offensive midfielder hardly got any opportunities, playing only 202 minutes in the whole season. For a 20-year-old player who needed to play as much as possible at that time, that was terribly low. He even managed to eke out one goal from such few minutes in the Copa del Rey against Unionistas CF. AC Milan came to the Spaniard’s rescue in the summer of 2020.

He played far more minutes at AC Milan than he had the previous season for Real Madrid, just as expected. He scored 7 goals and 3 assists, among other things, he managed to assert himself against Juventus, at that time clearly reigning Serie A. Apart from playing regularly, even if he only came off the bench at times, he played in his preferred position, that of an offensive midfielder.

In the summer of 2021, he returned again to Real Madrid, but right in pre-season he found that he would only get chances sporadically and decided to take up AC Milan’s offer of a two-year loan spell, which would see him develop even more as a footballer. In 2 years of regular play, the player can pick up incredibly.

Moreover, the Milanese big club managed to secure a place guaranteeing the Champions League group stage in the previous season. Unfortunately, in this competition they managed to win only 4 points and finished in last place. Brahim was a regular member of the starting line-up throughout the season, playing 2,500 minutes without fail, thus more than in the previous season.

He started the 2022/23 season almost with the position of the star of the team. So he scored 7 goals and 7 assists in the whole season, probably the fans would have expected more, but since their team won the domestic Serie A for the first time in a lot of years, they didn’t care. Brahim decided to return to his home town Real and fight for his position on the pitch.

Unfortunately for him, Carlo Ancelloti changed the system and switched to two spike strikers with a diamond in the middle of midfield. The most offensive post in midfield is guarded by Jude Bellingham, who is playing in great form at the moment.

Either way, Brahim only makes sporadic appearances. In LaLiga he played only 16 minutes in 3 games, when it looked like he might get more minutes against Union Berlin he played only 9 minutes.

When the Spaniard comes on, he plays very well, he allows himself in one-on-one battles, he can create chances for his teammates, technically he is also very good.

The fans are already slowly starting to call for him to be used more, if he were to start in the starting line-up for the Madrid derby tonight it would be out of the realm of miracles, but in the White Ballet’s busy calendar Carlo Ancelotti should definitely find a better position for him in the team than on the bench.
