West Ham won the 26th round of the Premier League on Monday, beating Brentford 4-2 in the London derby thanks to hat-trick by Jarrod Bowen. They jumped to eighth place in the table, one point behind the cup seven.
Tomas Soucek had the first chance in the fourth minute, but his header missed Brentford’s goal. A minute later the stadium was celebrating, Jarrod Bowen headed home a pass from Emerson and the Hammers quickly took a 1-0 lead.
And before Brentford could recover, they were two goals down. This time, Vladimir Coufal crossed and Bowen scored his second. The visitors didn’t give up and reduced the deficit in the 13th minute, with Frenchman Neal Maupay heading under the crossbar.
The home side’s Lucas Paqueta then scored twice, but missed Mark Flekken’s goal on both occasions. Mohammed Kudus then scored twice with his foot and then with his head, but missed the space between the three posts.
The second part of the first half was not so entertaining, it was closed by an inaccurate attempt by Soucek and the Hammers went into the box with a 2-1 lead. The second half opened with a Kean Lewis-Potter finish, but Alphonse Areola easily caught it.
Bowen finished hattrick in the 2nd half
In the 59th minute, Sergi Regulion shot from the edge of the box, but Soucek knocked the ball away for a corner kick. On the other side, a hat-trick was celebrated, after a Kudus centre from the right side, Bowen had an easy job already and increased it to 3: 1.
On the other side, Areola had to pull up against a volley from the edge of the box. In the 71st minute, on the other hand, it was all over. Emerson, the left-back, shot into the right-hand post from distance and gave the goalkeeper no chance.
After that, the game was over, and in the 83rd minute Yoane Wissa at least reduced the deficit for the visitors. The visitors’ final push was no longer enough apart from one chance from Ivan Toney and Brentford remain five points above the relegation zone. West Ham are eighth, a point behind Brighton.
