Bouzkova is the last Czech in the singles bracket of the WTA1000 tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico. Seven players from the Czech Republic were in the first round. Krejčíková fell in the opening round to Kalinskayaová, who will face Bouzková in the quarterfinals.
The aforementioned Bára Krejčíková, as well as Karolina Plíšková, Linda Fruhvirtová and Tereza Martincová said goodbye to the tournament in the opening round. The second round was the final one for Petra Kvitova and Katerina Siniakova. That left only Marie Bouzkova.
Even in her duel, it didn’t look like she was going to participate in the next stage of the tournament. Marie lost the opening set to Lyudmila Samson 0::6. But then came a great turnaround and finally the progress after sets 0::6, 7::5 and 6::3.
The native of Prague is having a successful season and boasts a record of 40::12. On home soil, she claimed the Livesport Prague Open title and also surpassed her previous career highs in the WTA rankings.
She is currently ranked 38th, but is 32nd in the live rankings and won’t necessarily stay there. It depends on the outcome of this particular event.
There are also several players still in contention in the doubles. This is not the case for Tereza Martincova, who fell to Marta Kostyuk in the first round.
On the other hand, the top seeds Siniakova/Krejcikova are in the quarterfinals without any problems. In the first round they had a free draw, in the second round a smooth 6: 1 6: 2 win against the Rosolska/Routliffe pair.
Linda Fruhvirt, alongside Kaia Kanepi, finished on the rackets of Kichenok and Ostapenko. It is the Ukrainian-Latvian pair who will challenge Siniakova and Krejcikova.
Bouzkova and Kalinskaya’s match starts at 3:30 on Saturday night. Krejcikova and Siniakova will start their battle today at 22:00.
