Both Laver Cup teams are complete. John Isner and Alex de Minaur round out the world selections
Less than a month to go until the start of the Laver Cup, the tennis competition pitting the teams from Europe and the world against each other. This year’s event, the first edition of which was hosted by Prague’s O2 arena in 2017, will take place at the hall of the same name in London. The complete rosters of both teams are already known.

The Europeans have won all four previous meetings, most recently last year by 14:1. Given the presence of four players from the world’s elite ten, they are again the favourites, with only one participant from the world’s top 10 in the ATP rankings. So who will be at the tennis show this time?
The European team, led by Björn Borg as captain, will once again feature Laver Cup founder Roger Federer. He has been dealing with a knee problem for many months, having undergone surgery three times, and in July he dropped out of the ATP rankings after 25 years.
Rafael Nadal is the highest-ranked player in this year’s battle for the cup named after one of tennis’ greatest legends, Rod Laver. Meanwhile, the Spanish holder of 22 Grand Slam titles, two of which he won this season, has also been struggling with health complications recently. He has had chronic foot problems for a long time and withdrew from this year’s Wimbledon due to an abdominal muscle injury.
World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas will also take part in the event for the third time. The second experience of the prestigious event awaits Novak Djokovic, who made his debut in 2018 in Chicago. The last Wimbledon winner and current sixth player in the ATP rankings is not having an easy season. Due to not being vaccinated against the covid-19 disease, he was unable to participate in several tournaments.
One place below the Serbian is another member of the European selection, the Norwegian number one Casper Ruud. The six representing the “old continent” include Andy Murray, who is gradually climbing the rankings after his hip problems. He is currently ranked 49th.
On the other side will be a trio of Americans led by John McEnroe. Taylor Fritz’s world number 12 is complemented by two experienced tennis players. They are the 108th player in the ATP rankings Jack Sock and the 48th ranked John Isner. The 208 cm tall athlete was one of the last two players to be added to the roster.
His participation was announced along with the addition of the Laver Cup rookie. Australia will not be represented this time by Nick Kyrgios, but by world number 20 Alex de Minaur, who is 23 years old.
Two other leading players in contemporary professional men’s tennis will also be in action. These are Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime, who is ranked eighth, and Argentine Diego Schwartzman, who is ranked 16th.
The 2022 Laver Cup will be played in the British capital from 23-25 September, so we’re in for a long weekend of top tennis. And now we know exactly all the names of the players we can look forward to seeing.
