Both Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are undoubtedly the greatest promises of world tennis. The Spaniard Alcaraz was the phenomenon of last year. Sinner, on the other hand, made a great start to this season and won his first career Grand Slam in Australia.
However, their start at the French Open was met with question marks. Both tennis players had been struggling with health problems for several weeks.
Both Alcaraz and Sinner will eventually play at Roland Garros. Which is great. Because their performance seems to be at a perfect level.
Alcaraz will go down in history
Sinner forgets his hip problems. His words that he will only jump in Paris if he is 100% fit have obviously come true. The Italian hasn’t stumbled yet, hasn’t lost a set.
He also handled the battle with the French veteran Gasquet with ease. Moreover, the Australian Open winner believes that he will continue to improve.
His rival Alcaraz, however, has received a lot of compliments. The Spaniard admittedly faltered gently in Wednesday’s match, losing the third set to Dutchman De Jong.
But in the subsequent one, he confirmed his progress to the third round. Eurosport expert John McEnroe praises not only his game with his amazing forehand, but also his attitude.
“Even in difficult situations he is able to smile,” he says of the current world number three. Alcaraz may not have the highest ambitions for Roland Garros, he says, but for a player of his level, that may be dropping out in the semi-finals.
McEnroe has never in his life seen a player his age perform such tennis. The Spaniard is capable of winning any match on any surface, according to him.
This year’s French Open began with the much-anticipated duel of Rafael Nadal. The question of who will be at the centre of the final battle in Paris is still very much open. But the chances that this pair will be there are high.
