Borna Coric is a 25-year-old tennis player from Croatia. He is currently ranked 183rd in the ATP rankings. However, his career high is the twelfth position from November 2018. A break of more than a year caused by health complications is to blame for the ranking drop.
His comeback from injury has not been ideal, but his performances are improving rapidly as time passes. In mid-June, he dominated a tournament in Parma, with scalps of Dusan Lajovic and Elias Ymer being particularly noteworthy.
In the first round at the tournament in Hamburg he faced Laslo Djer. The Serbian player won the opening set 6::1. When in the second set Djere led 4::2 and 40::15 on his serve, everything pointed to him advancing. But the opposite was true and Čorić won the second set in a tiebreak and was clearly the better player in the third act.
His opponent on Wednesday will be Tallon Griekspoor. The 26-year-old tennis player originally from the Netherlands is ranked 47th on the ATP rankings, his career high. His favourite surface is clay, where he won six Challenger events last year.
He added another last week when he triumphed at his home tournament in Amersfoort. He also confirmed his good form in the opening round in Hamburg, where his opponent was Danish tennis player Holger Rune. Griekspoor won 89% of the exchanges after his first serve, which was the key to his success. In addition, he created nine break point opportunities, while Rune got only three.
The paper favourite to reach the quarter-finals is therefore the Dutchman, who would certainly like to win the first match between these players. If he puts in a similar performance as he did on Tuesday, he will most likely win.
