Leonardo Bonucci has left Juventus for the second time in his rich football career. And whether this time permanently is in the stars. Either way, the Italian stopper headed to Berlin in the summer transfer window, where he donned the jersey of Uninou.
Bonucci, however, has not yet made his Bundesliga debut. The reason? According to Football Italia, it’s because of his unpreparedness for the game.
In fact, the Italian international was forced to train separately during pre-season training, as he was no longer part of Massimiliano Allegri’s plans. Juventus simply did not count on Bonucci anymore, but he only moved to the Union as a free agent at the very end of the transfer window.
According to the well-known and trusted daily The Athletic, Bonucci wanted to stay at the Turin big club and he made it loudly known. He applied for pre-season training, but Juventus did not include him in the squad for the tour of the United States.
The Viterbo native was not even given a jersey number. And as also reported by the famous and experienced Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Bonucci worked on the training field at different times each time than the team itself and also could not use all the available training resources.
Bonucci plans to sue Juventus, demands compensation
In any case, what exactly is the problem? Back in August, Umberto Calcagno (president of the Italian Players’ Association – AIC) called on Juventus to return him to his “function”.
Calcagno also noted that the club had violated the collective agreement between the Italian Football Federation, Serie A and the AIC.
In a statement at the time, Juventus confirmed the legitimacy of its actions vis-à-vis all registered players, who are fully guaranteed all the rights set out in the collective agreement in similar matters.
The club also stated that it was prepared to defend the legitimacy of its actions before the relevant authorities. Bonucci intends to sue his former employer. The reason for this is that the Italian giant did not provide the 36-year-old defender with adequate training conditions, thus damaging his image.
And, of course, he is seeking damages. Finally, he also adds that if he wins the lawsuit he will donate the amount to Neuroland, an NGO that supports families of children hospitalised in the paediatric neurosurgery ward of the Regina Margherita hospital in Turin, and to Live Onlus, an organisation that buys and donates defibrillators to sports clubs, schools and municipalities.
