Bonucci leaves Juventus for the second time in his career! Experienced Italian stopper heads to the Bundesliga to play in the Champions League

Leonardo Bonucci is heading to the Bundesliga, specifically to Union Berlin. Juventus have already agreed terms with the German outfit and two clubs from the Italian top flight have also expressed interest in him.

Leonardo Bonucci is leaving Juventus for the second time in his rich football career. And whether this time permanently is in the stars. Either way, the Italian stopper has a new challenge ahead of him.

Union Berlin has expressed interest in his services and, according to the latest reports, has agreed terms with the Italian giant.

As Fabrizio Romano reports, this transfer is already a sure thing. Bonucci is expected to undergo a medical examination on Thursday evening, followed by the signing of his contract. The former AC Milan defender is reportedly set to sign for one year, with the contract also including an option to extend his cooperation for another season.

According to Sky Sports, Juventus will pay 50 per cent of his salary, around €3.5 million. Bonucci has been training separately throughout the summer, as coach Massimiliano Allegri announced some time ago that he does not count on him for the 2023/24 season.

The nine-time Serie A champion will therefore wear the jersey of the club that will play in the Champions League for the first time in the current competition season. It should be noted that clubs from the Italian top flight – Lazio and Genoa – have also shown interest in Bonucci. The latter, however, opted for an engagement in the Bundesliga.

Bonucci at Juventus

The native of Viterbo has linked his rich football career mainly with Juventus. He moved to the Turin big club back in July 2010 from Bari, when Juventus snapped him up for just under €16 million.

Seven years later, he moved to Milan for 42 million euros. However, he lasted only one year at the San Siro, after which he returned to Juventus. The Bianconeri paid 35 million for him then. Now the 36-year-old stopper has another challenge ahead of him in the form of a loan to Union Berlin.

Bonucci has played a total of 502 games for Juventus, with a solid record of 37 goals and 10 assists as a stopper. He has won the championship nine times (once at Inter – ed.) and four times the Coppa Italia winner’s trophy.
