Bologna didn’t make it through the first round against AS Roma (0: 1), yet they remain calm as they are in the middle of the table. They are currently in 11th place and have a comfortable ten point lead on the relegation zone.
Atalanta also lost away. They didn’t score at Spezia until they equalised in stoppage time to make it 2-2. Because of this, they dropped to 7th place in the table, but only three points away from fifth-placed Lazio Roma and five points behind the Top 4.
Bologna’s key figures
Marco Arnautovic is firing on the home side, the Austrian striker has scored eight times and assisted once. Scottish international Lewis Ferguson operates in the midfield and has scored three goals so far.
Key figures of Atalanta
The visitors rely on goals from Ademola Lookman, the speedy winger has netted seven goals and assisted twice. Croatian international midfielder Mario Pasalic scored twice and also assisted twice.
Bologna struggled especially on defense. With 26 goals conceded, it is the worst defensively of the Serie A top 12 and has kept a clean sheet in only one of its last five league games. Inter Milan, for example, have scored six.
On the other hand, Atalanta’s attack has been on fire before the November-December break, averaging 2.6 goals per 90 minutes in their last ten games.
Considering the improved form of the away team’s attack, as well as the home team’s long-standing dysfunctional defensive performance, I think Atalanta can win on Bologna’s soil and therefore keep in touch with the Top 4.
