Bohemians made it through to the Conference League preliminary round thanks to a great last season, which they finished fourth in the Fortuna League. The fate was not kind to them, however, as they were assigned the Bodo/Glimt team.
The Norwegian team has been making a name for itself in recent years. Two years ago, they came to the attention of the wider public when they thrashed Mourinho’s AS Roma 6-1 at home.
Bohemians started rather timidly on the artificial grass in Norway, the respect of a strong opponent was evident. Even so, Matoušek could have sent the Kangaroos into the lead, but he didn’t convert his own break. Just before half-time Gronbaek opened the scoring, and after the change of sides Pellegrino scored two more goals.
At that moment, however, Bohemka lost their shyness and started to push the envelope. Hála hit the crossbar with a shot, Kovařík appeared right in front of the goalkeeper but didn’t convert.
Bohemians closed the setup with Espejord, who scored the third goal of the match, which was probably the turning point. If the score was only two goals, Bohemia could have scored at home and with the help of the spectators would have only needed one more to go into extra time, but this way it will be very difficult.
Thousands of fans will come to Letná, where the Kangaroos are away due to the unfit stadium, to support Bohemians. It will certainly be in the interest of Jaroslav Vesely’s charges to show offensive football to their loyal supporters and score some goals.
And that might just lead to offensive play on both sides, as Bodo/Glimt are also known for their offensive style of play.
