The American PGA Tour season is slowly coming full circle, with just two tournaments left to play before the 2022 FedEx Cup King is crowned. The traditional BMW Championship event will be hosted by the Wilmington Country Club course in Delaware. We take a look today at who could win the prestigious golf spectacle.

After last week’s St. Jude Championship at Mephis, the top 70 players have advanced to the second of three FedEx Cup playoff events. Wilmington Country Club in Delaware will host the event for the first time.

Will Zalatoris, the winner of last week’s first elimination tournament, tops the FedEx Cup standings. Behind him, world number one Scottie Scheffler is breathing down his neck, but his performance in Memphis was not at all successful.

The third place is occupied by Australian Cameron Smith, who is forced to skip the BMW Championship due to health reasons. However, according to the latest reports, he should be ready for the final Tour Championship event the following week.

According to bookmakers, the biggest favourite to win the BMW Championship is Irish golfer Rory McIlroy, who can be backed at odds of 11-1. He may have been burnt out at the last tournament in Memphis, but he rarely manages to spoil two consecutive tournaments. Plus, he’s been struggling with mostly very good form during the current year.

McIlroy is recovering from a missed cut after last week, a factor that has certainly influenced many opinions. Far from discouraging, though, the four-time major winner has only missed five cuts in the last two and a half years and has bounced back strongly from the bottom each time,” writes golf analyst Andy Lack on Golf.com.

You don’t trust Rory to win the BMW Championship overall, but do you believe he could finish in the top positions? Add 1.90 odds to your ticket when you bet into 10th place. If you believe he will finish in the Top 5, a bet at odds of 3.20 is the ideal choice.

But there are more hot candidates to win the second FedEx Cup title. With as many as seven players creeping in at odds of 17-1, virtually any of them can rapidly increase their chances of winning the trophy for the season’s best player on Sunday.

ODDS ON THE WINNER OF THE 2022 BMW CHAMPIONSHIP

Rory McIlroy 11-1
Jon Rahm 13-1
Parick Cantlay 15-1
Tony Finau 15-1
Matthew Fitzpatrick 17-1
Scottie Scheffler 17-1
Will Zalatoris 17-1

The BMW Championship begins this Thursday. Czech fans can watch it in combination with tennis on Eurosport 2.
