Europa League
Black week for Sparta. Does it mean a seasonal failure or can it recover?
If it was supposed to be a week of truth for Sparta, it was a very black week. First a shameful 0:4 defeat at Slovácko, then a 0:2 loss to Rangers and relegation from the Europa League. Can they recover from that?
If this was supposed to be a week of truth for Sparta, it was a very black week. First a shameful 0:4 defeat at Slovácko, then a 0:2 loss to Rangers and relegation from the Europa League. Can he recover from that?
It’s the beginning of October, Sparta finally beat Slavia in the derby after five and a half years. After the national break, they beat Pardubice 4:2 after a great performance, even led 2:0 against Lyon, then lost 3:4, but fought until the very end.
Letná is brimming with confidence. The fans, the management and the players. Sparta is back, this is our strength. Now it’s finally our year to win the title again. But everything is on a downward trend.
Sparta are struggling with Mlada Boleslav, where they will win only in the setup. Then it draws 2:2 with Baník Ostrava, who was objectively better and could have easily won. At Lyon it loses 0::3, then Leten defeats 4::2 the last Teplice, but the performance remained far behind expectations.
This is the last week. And Sparta opened the door on one front and completely slammed it on the other. In the league they lost by 4 goals to Slovácko and are now 5 points behind the first-placed Slavia. The first pre-season goal = the title, is getting further away.
A few days later, Pavel Vrba’s charges make a number of mistakes against Rangers and leave Ibrox Park with a 0:2 defeat, which means only one thing. Another pre-season goal = qualification for the spring Europa League, unfulfilled. Sparta will be fighting for at least a place in the 1/16 Conference Final in their last game.
This week could have two outcomes. Either Sparta will be completely laid low, get into a crisis, and not enter the title fight. Or, on the contrary, it will kick Spartans into gear, it will be a breakthrough week, and the Flyers will breathe a big ride. But so far there is no indication that it will be the second option.
