Edgar Ié is not a familiar name to many, but Barcelona fans will definitely be alert. He was a member of their reserve team, from where he later moved back to his native Portugal.
He also played a number of games for French clubs Lille and Nantes, then headed to Feyenoord, from there to Tranzonspor and then to Basaksehir. I’m sure he imagined a better career, at 30 years old there was no interest in him.
In February, as a free agent, he headed to Romania, specifically to Dinamo Bucharest, where he was to play five league games. But then he mysteriously disappeared from the matchday roster and now the reason is clear.
There is a real suspicion that Ié has not played a single game for Dinamo. It was supposed to be his brother Edelino, who is his twin brother and therefore the public can hardly tell them apart.
It is Edelino who is uncommitted, but during his career, unlike Edgar, he did not play in the elite competitions, but in the lower leagues. The qualitative difference is therefore more than significant.
And how did it come about that the two players could be exchanged? His teammates were suspicious that Edgar communicated with them in English when he was known to speak only Portuguese.
The club is currently considering DNA testing. It is not known what kind of test the two footballers would subsequently receive if the speculation is confirmed. After all, this would be the first known case in football.
