Biggest theft I’ve ever seen! UFC stars don’t understand the sensational win of “the protégé” American, Russian furious
UFC 280 offered an interesting spectacle and also some close results. The most talked about is the sensational win of Sean O’Malley, who surprisingly defeated Russian Peter Yan. How are UFC fighters reacting to the “controversial” victory?
UFC 280 offered an interesting spectacle and also some close results. The most talked about is the sensational win of Sean O’Malley, who surprisingly defeated Russian Peter Yan. How are UFC fighters reacting to the “controversial” victory?
O’Malley’s big surprise
Sean O’Malley is not having an easy time. He is a talented quality fighter, however, he is seen as “the one the UFC is competing against”. The fact is that he hasn’t met too many truly top fighters so far, quite the opposite.
But now he’s got a big challenge. Peter Yan, as one of the top bantamweights, was a big favorite. It was not too much to expect that the American would win. However, in the first round O’Malley showed that he is definitely not someone who can’t do anything.
The first five minutes were evenly contested, and could have gone either way. The second round looked better for Yano. The third round, however, was quite clearly in the hands of O’Malley, who, in the stance of the Russian fighter, was beautifully dismantling the Russian with great combinations.
Two judges saw a close win for the American, one saw a close win for the Russian. O’Malley showed tremendous humility after the fight and said he would have to watch the entire fight at home to make sure he really deserved the win.
His win, however, did not please a good portion of the fight scene. This, in fact, was reflected on social media.
Reaction to O’Malley’s win
As already mentioned, O’Malley has a certain reputation. And even though he won the fight mostly deservedly, as Yan did not threaten the American star on the ground, many people saw it the other way around. Including various fighters. The Russian himself sent a clear message after the fight.
Dominick Reyes, who fans may know because of his loss to Jiri Prochazka, tweeted that we need to start talking about privilege, he says it’s getting out of hand.
“This was one of the biggest thefts I’ve ever seen,” another fighter, Lando Vannata, let his voice be heard. Former champion Henry Cejudo made a similar comment, seeing the loss to Yano as the biggest theft in UFC history. “I hope our sport doesn’t end up like boxing,” he added.
Michael Chiesa then pointed out that referees are there to break your heart. And when the fight is tied, he said, you just have to deal with it.
