In the last few days, it was practically considered a done deal. There were reports from the Arab world that Karim Benzema had agreed to a monstrous offer and would leave Real Madrid. However, there has finally been a twist and the French striker will stay in the Spanish capital.

The whole thing happened very quickly. Earlier in the week, rumours began to circulate that Benzema had landed a luxury offer of a staggering €200 million from Saudi Arabia and that he was strongly considering it.

The situation gathered pace quickly and according to the Spanish media, Benzema already had one foot in the door. Real were reportedly already preparing an offer for Harry Kane, who was supposed to be a replacement.

Los Blancos fans were already slowly saying goodbye to Benzema, everything was really pointing towards a departure. But the whole situation has taken a different turn.

At Thursday’s MARCA awards, the question of Benzema’s future logically came up and the Frenchman answered in his own way. “Reality is one thing and reality is not what they write on the internet,” Benzema made it clear that he has no plans to leave the Bernabéu.

Thus, the daily MARCA has reported that Benzema will indeed stay at Real Madrid for one more year to complete his contract, which runs until 2024.

However, the offer from Arabia remains on the table for next year and Benzema is not throwing it away. At the same time, it is possible that he will stay in Madrid for another season, everything will reportedly depend on his performance.

It’s very good for Real that Benzema will stay for another year, because at the moment only Kane was coming into consideration as a replacement, and if that doesn’t work out, the club would have a big problem finding an elite striker.

This way he will have a whole year to prepare a replacement. Plus there are two big fish on the horizon in the summer of 2024. Erling Haaland has a €150 million buyout clause in his contract, which will be activated next summer.

And Kylian Mbappé has extended his contract until 2024 with an option for another year, but only he can extend it. So if he doesn’t want to stay in Paris, he can leave for free next year. Thus, the great soap opera will begin again, with Real chasing both world superstars. But this time, with one big change, there will be room at the top and no competition from the Ballon d’Or winner…
