Big trouble for Real Madrid! Luka Modric injured, will probably miss the semi-final of LM with Citizens
This is not the message Carlo Ancelotti wanted to get. The driving force and now club legend Luka Modric has been sidelined by a muscle injury and will miss the first Champions League semi-final against Manchester City.
This is not the message Carlo Ancelotti wanted to get. The driving force and now club legend Luka Modric has been sidelined by a muscle injury and will miss the first Champions League semi-final against Manchester City.
Despite his advanced age, Luka Modrić remains at an extremely high level. The 37-year-old midfielder is turning 11 in his eleventh season at Real Madrid and continues to be one of the key players.
He has already started 43 games this season across all competitions, adding 12 games for the national team. And that final phase of the season is yet to come.
the 55-match serving has taken its toll and Modric suffered a hamstring injury in Tuesday’s match against Girona.
“After the examinations carried out on our player Luka Modric by the Real Madrid medical service, he was diagnosed with an injury to the back of his left thigh. We are waiting for further developments,” the club said in an official statement.
However, according to well-informed journalist José Luis Sánchez, the Croatian footballer will be out for about 2 weeks and will certainly miss the league duels with Almeria and Real Sociedad, but especially the Copa del Rey final with Osasuna and most likely the Champions League semi-final with Manchester City.
The Spanish Cup final is scheduled for next Saturday, the clash with Citizens just three days later. Real Madrid will surely be hoping that Modric returns for at least the rematch a week later.
The only thing Ancelotti can take at least some comfort in is that he has a glut in midfield right now and Modric’s absence may not be so fatal.
Toni Kroos and Federico Valverde are certain players in the starting line-up, and to them the Italian will pick one of the Aurélien Tchouameni/Eduardo Camavinga pairing, who is currently playing in the form of his life at left-back. The reliable Dani Ceballos is still available.
