There was a really big surprise at the Wankdorf Stadium! Manchester United went to Switzerland as a big favourite and even led, but in the end they didn’t take a single point. Young Boys Bern, on the other hand, celebrated the important points.
Manchester United went to Bern as a big favourite, few expected the team with Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting line-up to lose in Switzerland.
And there were no signs of that after the Portuguese striker sent United into the lead in the thirteenth minute.
But in the 35th minute, the turning point came in the form of a red card for the visiting Aaron Wan-Bissako, who unnecessarily stepped on his opponent’s foot.
Young Boys managed to level the game in the 66th minute when David de Gea was outmuscled by the home side’s Moumi Ngamaleu.
United tried to reverse the tie, but a cold shower came instead. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Bern scored his second goal from Jordan Siebatcheu’s free kick after a huge mistake by Jesse Lingard.
After that, the whole stadium erupted in joy and the Young Boys could enjoy the all-important points. They still have Atalanta and Villarreal in their group and every point counts.
