Big shock in women’s tennis! No. 1 Barty ends her career at 25

She looked unbeatable at the Australian Open in January. Ashleigh Barty dominated her home Grand Slam in a sovereign fashion and was to continue to dominate women’s tennis. But the world number one surprisingly decided to call it a career at the age of 25.
Three Grand Slam titles and that’s it. Barty has dominated the Australian Open 2022, Wimbledon 2021 and the French Open 2019. The Australian tennis player is the undefeated world number one, she has a lead of 2204 points on the second Swiatek.
But she won’t add another. She hasn’t participated in a tournament since winning the Australian Open and won’t again. She has announced the end of her career.
“I know how much work it takes to give my best performance. And I just don’t have it in me anymore. I don’t have the mental and physical strength anymore,” Barty said in a video on Instagram.
“I had a lot of dreams and goals, but traveling the world and being away from my family and home for a long time was definitely not one of them. I will always love tennis, it’s been a huge part of my life, but I think it’s time to enjoy what Ash Barty loves as a person and not Ash Barty as an athlete,” the Australian fan favourite added.
Her demise comes as a big shock, it’s not very common for professional athletes to finish on top. In fact, Barty was quite possibly playing in the form of her life, but she decided to quit tennis anyway.
She had already made this move once before, quitting in 2014 because, among other things, she was plagued by depression during her transition to the pros. “I’ve done it once before, but this is different,” Barty assures.
