On Thursday, Slavia will play their first match of the Conference Europa League playoffs against Fenerbahçe in Istanbul. The Red and Whites have a big problem on the right side of the defence, Lukáš Masopust may be missing alongside Alexander Bah.
It has been clear since December last year that Slavia will miss Alexander Bah. The Danish full-back received a yellow card in the last group stage match of the Europa League, and in a tense match at Union Berlin he was punished for the third time, which means a one-match suspension in the cups.
Further problems arose last week. Lukáš Masopust was missing from the nomination for the MOL Cup match against Sparta, and he did not travel with the team to the league match at Slovácko. Coach Jindřich Trpišovský spoke about his condition after the win over Uherské Hradiště.
“Lukáš had a problem with his thigh muscle, but the resonance is clear, he could join full training on Monday or Tuesday. It was some discomfort that he felt in the incriminated area, but we believe that he is already recovering and will join training in the next few days, ” Trpišovský told the club website.
The question is whether Masopust will be ready to start in the starting lineup. If not, the coaching staff will have to look for an alternative. Who is available?
With regard to the squad, the same system that succeeded at the Union is on offer. That would mean a 3-5-2 formation with Aiham Ousou, Taras Kacharaba and Tomas Holeš at the stopper positions. The right wing-back would probably be played by Ondrej Lingr.
If we want to stick with a four-man defense, Peter Olayinka could be an unexpected choice. He has played several games in this position, he is reliable defensively, on the other hand Slavia will need him in attack. All the more so because their forwards are not in form.
Will one of the captains manage to recover or will a complete newcomer play on the right side of the defence instead of Lukáš Masopust? Tomas Holeš is still available, but his presence in the centre of midfield is so important that a move to the right is not very likely.
