According to the latest information, Erling Haaland will not be able to play for the Norwegian national team in the Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Spain and Georgia. A groin injury is to blame, who could replace him at the top of the attack?
The Norwegian national team will have a very difficult match against Spain on Sunday in the Euro 2024 qualification, and on Tuesday 28 March the Norwegians will play a match against Georgia.
Neither of these two games will be attended by goalkeeper Erling Haaland, who has already felt unpleasant pain in his groin after Manchester City’s FA Cup win against Burnley. And now he has even had to leave the Norwegian training camp.
The Norwegian national football team has already confirmed the information that Haaland will not be involved in the two national matches on their Twitter account.
Ole Sand, the Norwegian national team doctor, then gave an update on Haaland’s situation. His non-participation against Spain and Georgia was reportedly decided by Monday’s tests.
“We were hoping that it was only a minor injury that he would be able to heal by Saturday, but after yesterday’s tests and examinations it was clear that he would not start the matches against Spain and Georgia. It will be better if he receives medical follow-up at the club,” explained Sand.
This is certainly a big problem for Norway, but as coach Stale Solbakken says, the Norwegians have plenty of talented players to choose from.
After Haaland, Alexander Sörloth, who is now at Real Sociedad, could be the biggest weapon at the top of Norway’s attack. He has scored nine times in 22 league games.
In the current campaign, Haaland has featured in 37 games across all competitions in a Manchester City jersey, scoring an impressive 42 goals. So, fortunately for him, he has plenty of time to heal his injury. Citizens’ next league game is against Liverpool on April 1.
