Big problem for Manchester City! Guardiola calls De Bruyne’s injury serious, could miss up to the end of the year
Manchester City have apparently lost their mainstay for a much longer period than originally expected. Kevin De Bruyne did manage to recover from his injury in the Champions League final against Inter Milan, but he picked up his injury in the opening round of the Premier League and will likely have to undergo surgery.
Manchester City have apparently lost their mainstay for a much longer period than originally expected. Manchester City entered the new Premier League season victorious, winning 3-0 at Burnley. Erling Haaland scored two goals in the opening round and Rodri added a third in the 75th minute.
However, apart from the positive news of a smooth win, the Citizens have to deal with one big negative.
Kevin De Bruyne did not finish the game and had to be replaced by Mateo Kovacic in the 23rd minute. The reason for this is a muscle injury that the Belgian international suffered in the Champions League final against Inter Milan.
De Bruyne had managed to recover before the start of the Premier League season, but in the match against Burnley he recovered his injury and will probably miss his team for several months.
The thirty-two year old Drongen native will probably have to undergo surgery, as a result of which he may be out of action until the end of this year.
Understandably, Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has also spoken out about his ward’s injury, describing De Bruyne’s injury as serious.
“It’s serious – a big blow, really difficult for us. We have to decide whether he will have surgery or not, but he will be out for a few months. Kevin has specific qualities. You can lose him for one or two games, but for a longer period it is really difficult for us,” admits Guardiola, quoted by The Guardian.
“We have to look ahead. Of course we have different alternatives to replace him. It’s another opportunity for the others and I’m sure they will take this opportunity,” he adds.
