The penultimate Masters 1000 tournament was played in Cincinnati, USA. And Croatian Borna Coric brought an interesting story to the American concrete. He not only sensationally defeated Rafael Nadal in the second round, but eventually went on to win the tournament. In the new edition of the ATP rankings, he moved from 152nd to 29th and should be a seeded player at the US Open.

It seems like an incredible fairy tale. Croatian Coric hasn’t been in great form in recent months and has been falling down the rankings. But in the US Open dress rehearsal, he looked like he had been poured on from the first round.

Apart from Nadal, the likes of world top ten seeds Félix Auger-Aliassime and Cameron Norrie have fallen in their duels with him. And in the final, the scalp of world number five Stefanos Tsitsipas. A story worth recording.

But it should be added that the Croatian tennis player won the whole tournament quite deservedly. All week he presented an aggressive and, above all, accurate game, but he also showed combativeness and in several situations played shots that at first glance seemed practically impossible.

Čorić’s title is a continuation of an interesting season at Masters tournaments this year. Indeed, they have seen many new winners this year, including Taylor Fritz and Pablo Carreño Busta. The last tournament of the season in the Masters 1000 category will be played in Paris in late October/early November.

Even with yesterday’s title, Croatia’s Coric has won three trophies on the ATP circuit and his best ranking is 12th.

At 25 years old, he still has most of his career ahead of him, so if he can maintain the form he showed in Cincinnati, we can look forward to another great game from the 2018 Davis Cup winner.
