Chelsea and Barcelona are in a big battle for 23-year-old French stopper Jules Kounde. The Frenchman himself now faces an important decision, will he choose to stay in Spain or move to rainy England?

Jules Koundé has developed into an absolutely key player for Sevilla in recent years. At first glance, he impresses mainly because of his unusually large offensive support for a stopper, and also because of his height, as he is only 178 centimetres tall.

In recent years, however, the stopper is not expected to be a rock that wins every duel, much more emphasis has been placed on ball play and offensive support, aspects in which Koundé excels. It is no wonder then that he has managed to impress these two big European clubs with his play.

Barcelona and Chelsea have already competed for several players this summer. Whether it was Lewandovski, Raphinha or Dembelé, whose contract was coming to an end, the result was always the same – in Barcelona’s favour.

The highly respected journalist Fabrizio Romano, who specialises in transfers, confirmed that only Chelsea have sent an official offer so far.

Chelsea cannot afford any more hesitation, as soon the clubs will move from exotic football locations back home to start playing their domestic leagues.

Many football fans are making fun of Chelsea’s failure in the transfer market so far. As a result, fans of the English team are not having a happy time on social media.

Chelsea would need to strengthen in their defensive ranks after the departures of Rüdiger and Christensen.

It has even managed to bring in Kalidou Koulibaly, but he will only fill one spot in Thomas Tuchel’s line-up. So Chelsea desperately need one more reinforcement in defence.

Overall, the London club did not make a good impression. They lost on penalties to the American team Charlotte FC and even got beaten 0:4 by Arsenal.

Barcelona still hasn’t had enough through numerous arrivals. Jules Koundé would add more quality to the squad. But the question is whether he needs another stopper at all.

After all, they have solid options through Araújo, Christensen and García. A definite advantage of Koundé is that he can also alternate at right back, where Xavi has a rather poor selection.
