Best player of Euro 2020? 99% of the time it will be an Englishman. However, only the final will decide
The best player of the tournament will undoubtedly be decided in the final match between Italy and England. However, two names are already being mentioned – Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane. But we must not forget, for example, Harry Maguire.
The best player of the tournament will undoubtedly be decided in the final match between Italy and England. However, two names are already being mentioned – Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane. But we must not forget Harry Maguire, for example, who is the highest-rated player of the tournament after Cristiano Ronaldo.
Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling has had a very successful championship, scoring both of England’s two goals in the group stage which allowed them to go through. This, by the way, has never been done before with only two goals scored.
Then he scored the goal to start the match against Germany in the eighth-final, then his activity helped the Danes score an own goal and arranged a penalty for Harry Kane.
Overall, the Manchester City winger has 3 goals and one assist. However, he is dragging the whole attack with his activity and is the one who is expected to be voted player of the tournament.
Harry Kane
Many may say that Harry Kane scored 4 goals and nothing more. However, that alone is a great feat in itself and anyone who watches England games knows how valuable the Tottenham striker is to his team.
It was especially great to see in the semi-final match against Denmark, when the English game was rather trivial and completely without movement. It was Kane who understood very quickly that something had to be done about it, as he ran deep into the box for passes and helped his teammates with the transition to attack.
He then has countless battles on the tip and is generally very valid for his team. If he can decide the final game as well, he can be counted on to be voted player of the championship at Sterling’s expense. He is already one of the two big favourites for this championship.
Harry Maguire
The third aspirant for this victory is also an Englishman, this time it is the leader of the Albion defence, which in the whole tournament has only cashed in the semi-final, and that too from a direct kick.
It is the 28-year-old Manchester United stopper who, along with Luke Shaw, is England’s highest-rated player. Of course, the Manchester City duo of John Stones and Kyle Walker are a big part of that.
Overall, this foursome is virtually flawless and it will be very interesting to see how they manage to keep the rampant Italians at bay.
Maguire is unlikely to win this individual award and from my point of view it wouldn’t be fair to the other three England defenders either. Their greatest strength is in working together, just as in the Italian national team where only teamwork stands out.
