Bellingham refuted Ødegaard’s words at the time about Real Madrid’s cabin
Martin Ødegaard transferred to Real Madrid as a great talent. In 2015, the Spanish club paid less than €3 million for the Norwegian offensive midfielder. However, he never made his mark there. Now another talent, Jude Bellingham, has arrived in Madrid and, like Ødegaard, he will operate under the tutelage of Carlo Ancelloti.
Martin Ødegaard spent his first two seasons at Castilla, Real Madrid’s B team. During those two seasons he managed to make his debut in the white jersey.
In the last game of the 2014/15 season, he replaced the biggest star – Cristiano Ronaldo. Fans were excited, expecting Ødegaard to become the leader of the team for the next few years.
In January 2017, he was sent on loan to Heerenveen. A year and a half later, he returned to Real. In the Eredivisie, however, it wasn’t all glory in terms of performance. He didn’t stay in Spain that long and was sent back to the Eredivisie, i.e. Vittes. His performance here finally started to pick up and the Norwegian got into form.
Unfortunately, it was not enough to get him into the White Ballet squad again. So in the summer of 2018, he went on loan again, this time to Real Sociedad, where he put in fantastic performances and made himself known to the fans who kept an eye on him all year. It looked like a season that would guarantee him a ticket to the Real Madrid squad.
So after a year he returned to Madrid, but things didn’t work out again and he went on loan to Arsenal, who bought him for €35 million in the summer of 2021.
When Ødegaard moved to London on loan, he told Marca newspaper about Real’s cabin: “When you are at the highest level, it is not easy to make friends. I came from a different culture and it was not easy to fit in.”
Belligham clearly refuted Ødegaard’s words
This summer, Real Madrid bought the biggest talent that was on the market. And that was Jude Bellingham, who came from Borussia Dortmund for a sum in excess of €100 million. Immediately after arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu, he had to undergo knee surgery. But he was ready by the start of the summer training.
Thanks to him, White Ballet fans remembered the aforementioned Ødegaard interview and started hoping that Bellingham would fit in. However, even during the summer training it was clear from the training videos that Bellingham fit in immediately. Add to that the great performances in the matches in the USA, and the England international confirmed that he will definitely have no problem adapting.
Bellingham registered 3 goals and an assist in his opening two La Liga games. After his goal against Almeria, Vinícius symbolically chose to celebrate the England international, leaving behind not only any speculation about whether Bellingham had fit in, but also the concerns surrounding Ødegaard’s words at the time.
