Belgians lead the group after the win, decided by Lukaku

Group B continued in St. Petersburg, Russia, after the horrific moments following the collapse of Dane Christian Eriksen on Saturday evening. This time Belgium, one of the main title contenders, and Russia faced each other.

Meunier jumped on the pitch and a few minutes later Cheryshev also ran on for Kuzjaev.

The Belgian pressure finally turned into a goal again in the 34th minute. Thorgan Hazard’s centre surprised Russian goalkeeper Shunin and the deflected ball was cleared into the net by Meunier. Belgium continued to dominate the game until the end of the first half, but nothing significant happened and the game went to the booths with a 2:0 scoreline for the Belgians.

If the second half had started at the 76th minute, it would have meant nothing bad. There was very inaccurate football on both sides, and even after half an hour of the second 45 minutes, the shots on target column was still showing zeros.

Simply put, the Belgians had their certainties, while the Russians had all their attacks ending in mistakes. Neither Lukaku or Dzsuba as the main offensive weapons of both teams could develop anything interesting. Unfortunately, the second half was very uninteresting.

Out of nowhere, Lukaku got through after a beautiful crossing pass from Meunier and with his second goal of the game he definitely secured a calm win for his charges. At the beginning of the set time, Miranchuk tried to get through from a standard situation, but he missed from a position on the edge of the box.

The match ended 3:0 and 3 points went to coach Martinez’s charges. The next match will be on 17.6. when Belgium will face Denmark in Copenhagen.
