In three and a half years, Cameroonian defender Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui has become the leader of the Belgian side Ghent, where he heads the defence. His contract expires after this season and the club’s management would be interested in an extension, but there is a catch. The fifth unit of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League has financial problems and the club will not be able to meet the financial demands of the Cameroonian fullback. Turkish side Antalyaspor have already signed up for Ngadeu and need to strengthen their defence.

Thirty-two-year-old Ngadeu fled Prague-based Slavia in the summer of 2019 to Belgian side Gent, who sent €4.5 million to Eden. This was despite agreeing a new contract in Prague, which was also agreed in writing, but in the end the emphatic Cameroonian preferred Belgium.

Simon left as a legend, Michael left as a misfit. A written contract agreed with the player and the agent. The arrival of the player for the signing ceremony. At night, instead of the announced overnight stay, escape to Belgium. We were just negotiating leverage for a bigger contract. Theclub didn’t deserve this undignified spectacle, Míša,” wrote Slavic boss Jaroslav Tvrdík on Twitter.

Three and a half years have passed since then, during which time Ngadeu has played 155 competitive matches, in which he has scored ten times. The Cameroon international is happy at Gent, both footballingly and in life, but will probably leave the club in the winter or summer.

The club is in financial difficulties, which will affect any negotiations for new contract extensions. And that will be the case for Ngadeu, whose contract expires in the summer.

According to Belgian website Voetballbelgie, he would have to accept a significant reduction in his salary.

The Ghent management would not be averse to Ngadeu leaving in the winter to raise some funds. And Turkish Antalyaspor would like to take advantage of that.

The fifteenth-placed team in the Turkish Süper Lig has already contacted the employers of the former Slavia defender, saying that they would like to bring him back in the winter. Antalyaspor are facing a fight for salvation among the Turkish elite and the club would be happy to have Ngadeu to help them with that goal.
