Being invisible was his job! For me, Busquets is one of the best midfielders in history, Kane praised the Spaniard’s career
Sergio Busquets has been behind all the great triumphs of Barcelona and Spain in the last 15 years or so. However, he has always been overshadowed by others who have benefited from his hard work in the middle of the park. The Spanish midfielder must be all the more pleased with the words of Harry Kane, who considers him one of the best footballers in history.
Earlier, Barcelona coach Vicente del Bosque commented on the Barcelona legend in an interview: “When you watch the game, you don’t notice Busquets. But when you watch Busquets, you see the whole game.”
This perfectly sums up his contribution to the team, without which he may well have missed out on several trophies, whether Barcelona or the Spanish national team.
Busquets could read the game perfectly and broke down one opponent’s attack after another. All his teammates benefited enormously from his work, many of whom went on to win Ballon d’Or.
However, the Spanish midfielder has remained behind the scenes of individual awards for virtually his entire career. All the more reason, surely, to highlight his under-appreciated artistry, as Bayern Munich’s new acquisition has now done.
“When I was young, and even now, I loved Sergio Busquets’ game. He is an incredible player because of the way he plays, the way he navigates the game. I take my cue from him on how to behave in this or similar positions,” Givemesport quoted the English striker as saying.
After winning three Champions League titles and nine in La Liga, Busquets headed to MLS to join Lionel Messi. And here again you can see what we wrote above. Again and again, only the Argentine magician is mentioned, but there is virtually no mention of the Spanish midfielder’s contribution.
Would Inter Miami really have won all those games without Busquets? Maybe so, however, the 35-year-old native of Badia del Vallès continues to humbly do what few in the world can do – orchestrate his team’s play and break down the opposition’s attacking forays.
“I know he’s in Miami now, but I have a lot of respect for him. He has always been in the shadow of other teammates like Messi, Neymar, Xavi or Iniesta. But for me he is one of the best midfielders in history,” Kane added.
