Junior Connor Bedard decided the game against Winnipeg in overtime as the third-youngest player in history. Scoring leader Nikita Kucherov scored his 300th NHL goal and Sebastian Aho also reached a major milestone for the Predators.
Connor Bedard tied the game with Winnipeg
In the Chicago Blackhawks vs. Winnipeg Jets (2: 1), junior Connor Bedard scored both goals for the home team. He scored the second goal of the game at 62:15 and became the third youngest player in history to score in overtime. He was deservedly named the star of the game.
Only Sidney Crosby, who was 18 years and 101 days old, and Jordan Staal, who was 10 days earlier than Bedard, were faster to decide the game in overtime. “It’s always nice to score goals. Especially in front of the fans that came out today, it was amazing. It was even sweeter to get two points in extra time,” he said after the game.
Petr Mrazek was also in a great mood after the game. He was especially happy that he is finally healthy. “This is the number one thing for me and we talked about it before. When I feel good, I know I can play the way I want to. The things that we do with (goaltending coach) Jimmy (Waite) on the ice during practice help. It gives you a lot of confidence,” said the Czech goalie, who stopped 37 shots.
So far this season, Bedard clearly leads all rookies in the stats. He is fulfilling the expectations that were predicted. He is already almost at the one point per game mark after scoring 32 points in 34 games played. He is also the team’s top scorer with 15 goals and passer with 17 assists. If the Calder Trophy were awarded today, Bedard would be the clear choice.
Kucherov at 300 goals scored
In the Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Florida Panthers game (2:3), scoring leader Nikita Kucherov scored 1 goal to maintain his two-point lead over the Colorado Avalanche’s Nathan MacKinnon.
But above all, it was his 300th goal in the regular season. He scored it in his 679th game in a Tampa Bay jersey, becoming the second fastest player in franchise history after captain Steven Stamkos, who only needed to play 550 games to reach that mark.
Sebastian Aho surpasses 500 points
In the Nashville Predators vs. Carolina Hurricanes (2:5), Sebastian Aho was there for all the action. He provided the Hurricanes with one goal and encouraged his teammates to score with three accurate passes. He played one of the best games of his career so far.
With this four-point night, he moved over the 500-point mark in the NHL. He now has 503 points on 232 goals and 271 assists. Since he did it in his 552nd game played, he also became the second fastest player in Hartford Whalers/Carolina Hurricanes history after the legendary Ron Francis, who only needed 426 games to do it.
