Bedard suffered a nasty injury

Connor Bedard didn’t finish the game against the New Jersey Devils after he had to leave the game during the first period due to a sharp collision with defenseman Brendan Smith. He did not return to the game and a post-game examination revealed a nasty injury.

Bedard suffered a fractured jaw, which will keep him out of the game for several weeks. And that could be a serious complication for the young player. The chances of making the playoffs are already highly unrealistic with the Blackhawks being the third worst team in the league.

Of course, it’s a complication from another point of view as well; a significant number of missed games could derail Bedard’s bid to win the prized Calder Trophy for the season’s top rookie. So far he has dominated all the stats, with the most goals, assists and points among the rookies. This can be exploited by Minnesota’s Marco Rossi, who contributed the winning goal today to Marc-Andre Fleury’s 551st career victory.

There is a parallel with Connor McDavid, who also went for the trophy in his first season, but due to a long-term injury he also missed a significant part of the season and of course did not win the rookie of the year trophy.

Hyman directed the Oilers to victory

In the Edmonton Oilers vs. Ottawa Senators (3: 1), forward Zach Hyman scored all three goals for his team. He shadowed the star duo Draisaitl – McDavid. In addition, this season shows that scoring goals is no longer just up to this duo.

In fact, Hyman scored his third hat trick this season and the fourth of his career. He also joined the club of active players who managed to score 3 hat-tricks in 35 games played this season. He joins Alexander Ovechkin (2017-18), Patrik Laine (2018-19) and Auston Matthews, who also did it this season.

Barkov dished out assists in his 700th game

In the Colorado Avalanche vs. Florida Panthers (4:8), Aleksander Barkov of Finland played his 700th regular season game. The Florida forward contributed with four assists to the Avalanche’s demolition on his ice.

Another hero of the game was his teammate Matthew Tkachuk, who recorded one goal and three assists. After tonight’s game, Barkov has 674 points on 254 goals and 40 assists.
