The MLS is going nowhere, but David Beckham and his Inter Miami don’t like the last place. That’s why he’s decided to step up big time and bring a trio from Barcelona to Florida.

Only five years old, the club is not doing well in MLS. In 22 games it has collected only 18 points and is in last place in the Eastern Conference and is the worst team in the whole league.

But that should change very quickly now. Owner David Beckham has brought in ultra-luxury reinforcements. He has brought in Lionel Messi from Paris, who disliked the pressure at PSG, plus the booing of the fans, and would like to finish his career in peace somewhere where he will be admired.

But in order for Messi to start making magic in Miami, he won’t be able to do it alone. That’s why the English icon is building him a bespoke team. He’s brought his favourite coach, Tata Martin, onto the bench.

Into midfield came Barcelona teammate and recent Spain captain Sergio Busquets. But the defence also needs to be strengthened. And how else but from Catalonia.

Jordi Alba made it clear in May that he would not extend his contract at Barcelona and would end up at Camp Nou. So on Thursday evening, Inter Miami announced him as their new signing.

But there is also talk of other reinforcements for Inter Miami, of course, according to Messi’s taste. His best friend Luis Suárez, or Andrés Iniesta, could come in.

There may well be an exhibition of icons in Miami. All the players are already around 35 years old and are going to Florida to finish their rich careers.
