Bayern Munich are preparing an improved offer for Tottenham for Kane. Will it soften Levy?
Harry Kane’s departure from Tottenham has been speculated about every transfer window for the last few years. This time it looked really real, but for now he is still a Spurs player, with whom he has signed a one-year contract.
Harry Kane’s departure from Tottenham has been speculated about every transfer window for the last few years. This time it looked really real, but for now he is still a Spurs player, with whom he has signed a one-year contract. Will Bayern Munich succeed, or will he end up like his predecessors?
Manchester City, Real Madrid and now Bayern Munich are also trying to acquire the English striker, who according to the Daily Mail are preparing an improved bid of £70 million. An earlier 56 million was quickly brushed off the table by owner Daniel Levy.
Buying Kane, in short, is not easy. Indeed, Levy is known for his hard bargaining, intransigence and haggling to the last pound. For this reason, several clubs reportedly prefer not to do business with Tottenham at all.
However, Levy must take into account the fact that Kane will be 30 years old at the end of this month. At the same time, his contract expires in a year’s time and he will be able to go anywhere for free. Spurs will have to make some concessions, but anyone who knows Levy knows it won’t be by much.
According to Spanish newspaper Diario AS, the Tottenham owner was asking around £100m for Kane before the start of this transfer window. That may be a reasonable amount for such a quality and reliable goalscorer, but not taking into account circumstances such as age and contract.
Premier League record, or titles?
Kane has scored 211 goals in the Premier League so far, so if he stays in the Premier League, which was apparently his plan, then Alan Shearer’s record of 260 goals can be expected to fall.
That would certainly be a great satisfaction for Kane for his long-standing efforts, but the English striker would also surely like to win at least once the team trophy that continues to elude him, both at Tottenham and in the national jersey.
And where else are you more certain of winning a trophy than at Bayern Munich? The German outfit have celebrated their 11th league title in a row this year and given the team’s development, that streak cannot be expected to come to an end.
As we have been able to perceive the actions of Tottenham’s owner so far, it can be counted on that he will reject this offer as well and negotiations will continue. However, given how good a businessman he is, it can be reckoned that he will either extend Kane’s contract or actually let him leave.
Even if it’s £70m or leaving for free next year, there’s nothing to think about here…
