Bayern Munich’s Senegalese striker Sadio Mané will not be included in the squad for the upcoming Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim. The reason for this is the altercation in the locker room with Leroy Sane, for which Mané was punished by the Bavarian club. The thirty-one-year-old forward will also pay a fine.

On Tuesday 11 April, Bayern Munich played Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium and lost 0:3.

The current second team of the English Premier League had the upper hand in the match, so its victory can be interpreted as deserved. In the 27th minute, Rodri opened the scoring account of the match by sending a shot from long range and scoring.

Citizens then struck twice more in the second half. In the 70th minute, Erling Haaland sent a great centre into the box which was capitalised on by Bernardo Silva. And six minutes later, Haaland was already a goal scorer when he put the ball in the net from close range.

There can be no doubt that the Bayern players were frustrated with the result. Especially when there was a subsequent conflict in the dressing room involving Sadio Mané and Leroy Sané.

The former was even supposed to punch his teammate in the face, for which he was punished on the carpet by the club management. The Bavarian club banned him from the squad for the match against Hoffenheim, plus Mané will pay an unspecified fine.

“Thirty-one-year-old Sadio Mané will not be included in FC Bayern’s squad for Saturday’s home game against 1899 Hoffenheim. The reason for this is his misconduct after Bayern’s Champions League match at Manchester City. In addition, Mané will be fined,” reads an official statement from the Bavarian club.

Will Mané leave Bayern in the summer?

It should be added, Mané probably didn’t only feel frustration for the Citizens game. The thirty-one year old Senegalese striker has not yet followed up his stellar performances at Liverpool and is simply not doing well at Bayern.

The latest speculation even suggests that the German giant will be looking to offload him in the summer. Mané is under contract at Munich until the end of June 2025, but he has scored only eleven goals in 32 competitive matches in a Bayern jersey so far.
