This transfer came out of the blue. No big speculations, no long tug-of-war, just a quick transfer between rivals. Marcel Sabitzer will move from Bayern Munich to Borussia Dortmund.

At one time he was a hot commodity in German football. Marcel Sabitzer transferred to Leipzig when they were still playing in the second league and with a record of 8+5 he helped them to promotion to the Bundesliga.

Over five seasons he was regularly among the league’s best midfielders and averaged 8 goals per season in the Bundesliga. In the summer of 2021 he was bought by Bayern Munich.

But Sabitzer did not fare so well in Bavaria. He scored only two goals in a season and a half, nor were his performances great. That’s why the club decided to send him on loan in the winter.

Manchester United reached for him, but even in England, the Austrian midfielder did not follow up his Leipzig form. He played 11 games in the Premier League with a record of 0+1, moreover, the fans were not completely impressed with his performances.

He scored at least once in the FA Cup, twice in the Europa League. But even that was not enough for the Manchester United management, who decided that they were not interested in extending their cooperation.

So Bayern decided to sell the player and Borussia Dortmund stepped in. The latter is looking for a replacement for Jude Bellingham and will pay 19 million euros for Sabitzer, the amount is already with bonuses. According to Fabrizio Romano, the contract should be signed at the end of this week.

Besides Sabitzer, BVB have already bought Paul-Philippe Besong from Nuremberg and Felix Nmecha from Wolfsburg. In addition, Ramy Bensebaini has arrived as a free agent from Gladbach.
