A clash of two teams from opposite ends of the table but also a Czech derby. The match between Leverkusen and Augsburg has all this to offer. But the home team is facing a large number of players.
While Leverkusen are fighting for the top spot, Augsburg are just a point away from the relegation zone. Yet both teams have something in common.
Patrik Schick will fight for the home side, while Jan Moravek, who is cursed by injuries, will be on the other side of the pitch. So we can look forward to a derby of Czech players.
Even though Augsburg with 19 goals are among the worst teams in terms of offense, the Bayer Leverkusen defenders have to be very careful. In the last five games they have scored twelve goals. The last time they kept a clean sheet was against Bochum at the end of November.
Augsburg are even a goal better defensively. However, Markus Weinzierl’s charges should work on their attack.
High hopes are pinned on Ricardo Pepi, who broke the club record with his transfer from Dallas. Augsburg paid over 16 million euros for the American youngster. The in-form Michael Gregoritsch could also be a threat to the home defence.
On the other side, Patrik Schick, the league’s second top scorer, will be ready at the top of the attack. The Czech forward even scored in their last match.
Leverkusen will not have nine names available for the match. Apart from Daley Sinkgraven or Ezequiel Palacios, Odilon Kossounou and Edmond Tapsoba will also be missing due to their representation at the African Cup.
On the other hand, goalkeeping duo Tomas Koubek and Tobias Strobl will miss the match.
The statistics point clearly to the home side, not only by the position in the table, but also by the fact of the unflattering Augsburg. Leverkusen hasn’t lost to them at home yet.
