Battle of Maddison. Tottenham and Newcastle want to buy him from Leicester

When Leicester were relegated to the second division, the management knew immediately that they would have huge problems with the squad composition. The Championship stars would certainly not want to play and would abandon ship. One of the first to go is James Maddison.
The 26-year-old midfielder had 10 goals and 9 assists last season, and 12 goals and 8 assists the season before.
On his day, he ranks among the best midfielders in the league, he is also on the England national team shortlist and the Championship would indeed be beneath him already.
So after five years at Leicester, it’s time for a transfer, which has been talked about for a while anyway. Where would Maddison head to?
According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, there are two favourites. Tottenham and Newcastle. Spurs are very interested in Maddison, with new coach Ange Postecoglou himself reportedly asking for him.
But Newcastle have reportedly been working on his arrival since last summer. Moreover, he will be facing the Champions League at St. James’ Park and will not play European Cups at Tottenham next season.
Moreover, Newcastle are showing decent progress after the arrival of the new owners, they are going step by step, no hasty buying of overpriced stars, but systemic work. That’s what might tempt Maddison.
Maddison’s value according to Transfermarkt website is 55 million euros. However, his contract expires next year and with the drop to the Championship, we can expect the transfer fee to be possibly lower.
