The Czech national football team won against Estonia 2:0, but it was not enough to finish second in the group, Wales has one more point thanks to a draw with Belgium. The Czech team is through to the Nations League. What did assistant coach Jiří Chytrý say after the game?
The Czech team was already sure to qualify for the barrier thanks to the Nations League. However, the game was about being seeded and avoiding a stronger opponent at least in the first match.
With Estonia, the selection of coach Jaroslav Šilhavy won 2: 0, but such a goal difference was not enough, moreover, Wales drew with Belgium, and so advancing among the seeded was a utopia.
“We are happy that we finished the qualification with a win. We didn’t do well the passage when we lost in Belgium and didn’t beat Wales at home. After that we had to rely on a combination of circumstances. In the end, it was not enough for second place and we have to accept it,” said assistant Jiří Chytrý at the press conference.
Tomáš Souček did not start the match. The reason, according to the coach, was that the chances for the barrage were diminishing so much during the match that it was better not to risk anything.
The Czech team must now concentrate on the World Cup barrage, which will be played next spring. Which opponent would he like?
“Personally, I would prefer if we got Wales or Scotland again. We have experience with them, even positive experience, that we could do it. Plus we have information about them, so the preparation would be easier. The boys have touched it and convinced themselves in those games that they have what it takes. It could play a psychological role and help,” Chytrý added.
