Barcelona’s 101-year-old number one fan has died

Barcelona has announced the death of Manuel Mañós Gonzalbo, a member of the number one club. He died at the age of 101 and had been a member of Barcelona since 5 September 1932. Mañós Gonzalbo died on 23 July and had the honour of being the number one member since February 2019, when Josep Selva passed away.

Mañós Gonzalbo died on 23 July and had the honour of being the number one member since February 2019, when Josep Selva passed away.

He was the oldest fan of the Catalan club. Manuel Manos Gonzalbo died on 23 July, his death was announced by his children – Manel, Mireia, Laura and Jordi. His funeral will take place on Wednesday.

In 2007 Gonzalbo celebrated his 75th anniversary as a member and received a gold badge from Joan Laporta. It was before the match between Barcelona and Almeria. The last time Joan Laporta met him was two years ago.

He took over the club’s number one membership from Josep Selva, who died in February 2019.

“We regret to announce the death of Manuel Mañós Gonzalbo, FC Barcelona’s number 1 membership holder, at the age of 101. He had been a member of the club since 5 September 1932. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.”

During his almost 90 years as a member of the Catalan club, Manuel Mañós Gonzalba was able to celebrate all league titles (except the first one in 1928/29) and international cups.

He has watched his team’s matches at Les Corts and Camp Nou and has been able to see all the Barca legends, such as Kubala, Cruyff, or more recently the achievements of Rijkaard, Guardiola, Tito Vilanova and Luis Enrique.
