Barcelona won 1-0 for the 11th time and came very close to the title after the win in Bilbao
1:0. This is Barcelona’s most frequent result this season. They have celebrated victory after the closest possible result eleven times, most recently on Sunday night in Bilbao. And thanks to the win over Athletic, the Blaugranas are much closer to the title.

Mallorca, Celta Vigo, Valencia, Atlético Madrid, Getafe, Girona, Villarreal, Valencia again and Athletic Club. Barcelona only needed to score one goal against these teams in La Liga and then not score again.
The Culés also won the Copa del Rey with the closest result against Real Sociedad and Real Madrid. They are currently on a run of three consecutive 1-0 wins.
Barcelona had a tough time in Bilbao. Athletic were the better team, Raúl García hit the crossbar and in the 87th minute the home side managed to equalise, but VAR disallowed the goal due to a questionable hand.
Nevertheless, with the win, Barcelona came extremely close to the title. It is at San Mamés that the team has not been doing so well, losing two of its last five games, drawing once and winning two. If it fails in the Basque Country, its lead would shrink to 6 points and if it loses next week in El Clásico it would be just 3 points, which would mean panic.
Barcelona, however, maintained a nine-point gap to Real Madrid with a win at one of the toughest stadiums in Spain, bringing them much closer to the title. They have the El Clásico at home next week, but they will not face any more difficult trips where they are expected to lose points.
The Catalans will travel to last-place Elche, to Getafe, to Rayo Vallecano, to Espanyol, to Real Valladolid and in the last round to Celta Vigo. At home they will face Real Madrid, Girona, Atlético, Betis, Osasuna, Real Sociedad and Mallorca.
Barcelona’s big advantage is that they no longer play European cups and can concentrate on La Liga. Real Madrid still have to make up ground in the Champions League.
Moreover, Barcelona is advancing through the league this year in a sovereign and extremely determined manner to win the title after four years. Barring a major crisis, it will probably not miss out on the title again.
