The highest football competition in Spain is in full swing and the two biggest contenders to win the championship title have not yet known their conquerors after four rounds played. All eyes are on the end of October.
That is when the first El Clásico of the season will take place, when Barcelona will welcome Real Madrid to the Camp Nou, who are leading La Liga with four wins so far. Just like last season, the Blaugranas will present a special edition jersey.
After the owl of rapper Drake and the emblem of the third Motomami album by Spanish singer Rosalia, Barcelona players will once again dance on the pitch to the rhythm of the music. This time, however, the stadium will be filled with rock classics.
The players will take to the pitch with The Rolling Stones logo. The match will take place on 29 October, shortly after the famous rock legend releases its 24th studio album, ‘Hackney Diamonds’.
The reason for creating this edition is, of course, a partnership with music streaming company Spotify. The latter has been the club’s main sponsor since July last year.
The announcement of the Rolling Stones logo on the jersey caused excitement among the rock band’s fans. However, as it happens, there were also those who criticized the announcement.
They blame the club for falling into a debt trap and ruefully recall the time before 2006 when Barcelona was one of the few major clubs in the world to play with jerseys without a sponsor logo.
This is, of course, a rather utopian notion these days. The club is struggling with huge debts and desperately needs new sources of revenue. And it’s the collaboration with Spotify that should bring them to the club, as well as new fans.
