Barcelona wants to sue Atlético for not recruiting Griezmann! Management deliberately sends him for only 30 minutes
The Antoine Griezmann case is ready to explode at the moment. Barcelona are preparing to sue Atlético Madrid for not recruiting Griezmann, who is on loan with an option in Madrid.
The Antoine Griezmann case is ready to explode at the moment. Barcelona are in fact preparing to sue Atlético Madrid for not recruiting Griezmann, who is on loan with an option in Madrid.
The whole situation is as follows. Barcelona had to get rid of players with big salaries because of the bad financial situation, so they sent Griezmann on a two-year loan with a €40 million option.
Substitution in the 60th minute
The option was to be activated if the French striker plays more than 50% of the minutes. But Atlético, although they would like to keep Griezmann, do not want to pay €40 million for the 31-year-old, they are trying to bring the price down, so they came up with a solution.
From the new season onwards, it is doing everything it can to ensure that Griezmann does not meet the 50% minutes quota. And Simeone is keeping it really honest. In the new season, he regularly sends him into the game after the 60th minute.
Getafe – 61st minute
Villarreal – 61st minute
Valencia – 63rd minute
Real Sociedad – 62nd minute
Porto – 60th minute
Griezmann is resigned to this role, he has expressed himself as taking the situation as it is. Even Simeone would surely like to use his star more often, but he has accepted the game management and is following the procedure.
Lawsuit
Only, Barcelona don’t like that at all. According to Spanish sources El Partidazo de COPE, Radio MARCA and El Larguero, the Catalan club is preparing a lawsuit against Atlético.
Barcelona now claim that the hosting was for one year, the second year would be added if certain conditions are met. According to Barcelona, the quota of playing more than 50% of the minutes only applied to the first year, Griezmann played 81% of the available minutes there.
Therefore, the Catalans claim that Griezmann is already an Atlético player and the Colchoneros must pay the agreed 40 million euros. Atlético’s version is that the second year of the guest appearance also counts towards the total quota.
Where is the truth?
And who can we trust? Considering that Barcelona claim the contract was fulfilled in the first year, but didn’t speak up after the end of the season, or even at the beginning of it, but only when they saw that Griezmann was coming on after the 60th minute and could lose money as a result, it raises some question marks.
She desperately needed to raise whatever money she could in the summer to sign up new players under the salary cap. So why wouldn’t she approach Atlético now if they say they owe her €40m?
Rather, it looks like Barcelona didn’t like the solution Atlético came up with and would have lost the big money it was already counting on. So they are currently doing everything they can to get their €40 million.
So everyone is pushing in their own way. Atlético by only letting Griezmann out for 30 minutes, Barcelona are threatening legal action. How will the whole situation end? It is also likely that the two teams will eventually reconcile and agree on a sum less than 40 million euros.
