The Camp Nou matches between the home team and Atlético Madrid are usually a great spectacle. Sunday will probably be no different. The clash could be the final nail in Real Madrid’s coffin. If Barcelona were to dominate the competition, they would almost certainly win the title.
The Blaugranas and their youth academy, La Masia, are renowned in today’s football world. It has produced, and continues to produce, a number of absolute stars, and more may be born right now. Indeed, Lamine Yamal, a right winger of Spanish nationality, only 15 years old, has been called up to the A-team.
To be part of the Catalan big club’s senior squad is the dream of the vast majority of football’s minnows, but few get their wish. The aforementioned minority already includes the aforementioned Yamal. Getting into the team for the first time at 15 and still against Atlético is a start with a capital S.
The Spaniard himself doesn’t even have a professional contract yet, but that will change very quickly after Sunday. It’s no surprise that his agent is Jorge Mendes, one of the biggest names in the business.
Calling such a young player to such a big duel, however, raises a certain degree of fear and uncertainty. This is even assuming that the player does not enter the match at all. However, the Catalan coach Xavi had his say on the matter.
“Believe me, Yamal has incredible ability and has a great future at this club. We are not afraid to call him up, despite the fact that he is only 15 years old. His persona offers a lot and he is literally brimming with talent,” commented the Barcelona coach.
