Danish stopper Andreas Christensen will join Barcelona’s defensive ranks from next season. The 25-year-old footballer did not agree on a contract extension at Chelsea and will leave for the southern European capital as a free agent.
“Andreas Christensen has made his decision and will play for Barcelona,” wrote renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano. According to the Italian journalist, it is only a matter of time before the national defender signs a contract at Camp Nou until 2027.
The Bröndby graduate joined Chelsea’s youth teams in 2012. Three years later, he went on loan to Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he worked his way into senior football.
In the team of Xavi Hernandez, a legend of the Catalan club, he should form a stopper duo with Gerard Pique and slowly take over his leadership role in the defensive ranks.
Christensen has made 153 starts for the Stamford Bridge side, scoring two goals and the same number of assists.
A steady member of the Danish national team, he has won the Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and both domestic cups. Most recently, he holds the trophy for the winner of the Club World Cup.
The market value of the 188 cm tall full-back is £32 million.
