A few days ago, there was still speculation about who will lead the Catalan club next season. Now it is clear. Barcelona boasted unexpected news and apparently great news for the fans.
In January, Xavi Hernández announced unexpected news. The coach of the Catalan big club decided to leave the team of his heart after the end of this season. Barcelona thus found themselves in an unexpected situation and had to start looking for a new coach.
A lot has happened since then. The Blaugranas have been linked with great coaching aces, but also with less successful coaches who, however, have a Barcelona past. For example, a few days back Rafael Márquez, the former stopper of last year’s Spanish champions, was linked with taking over the A-team.
Márquez is now leading the B-team, and is still at the club. Moreover, it would be a financially inexpensive option. However, it is questionable how he would perform. After all, he has no experience of coaching at the highest level.
And he won’t be getting any anytime soon. At least not in Catalonia. Barcelona has announced an unexpected news that will probably surprise many. The coach for next season is clear.
Barcelona announce great news
“Today I have the pleasure of informing you that Xavi will continue as head coach,” Barcelona boasted in the words of club president Joan Laporta on Twitter.
Xavi complained about quite a few things when announcing his end. He found the club’s tenure difficult. He felt immense pressure as well as believed that his departure would be the best move for the club. In the press conference, he revealed what had changed so much that he decided to rethink his future.
“I am 100% committed. The trust that Barcelona has placed in me is spectacular. Let’s get down to business. The club needed to change course. I feel different now,” Xavi let it be heard.
Interestingly, Laporta said in a press conference that Barcelona have an extraordinary man as a coach who should make the fans proud.
